CEBU CITY – A barangay councilor was shot to death in a daring ambush Friday morning.

Killed was 23-year-old Art Stephen Bas who was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants.

Bas was a councilor in Barangay Lagtang in Talisay and was a graduating mechanical engineering student at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U).

Bas was driving a white Ford Everest on his way to CIT-U when he was attacked around 8:45 a.m.

According to the Talisay City Police Office, Bas’ vehicle was moving slow because of traffic. The vehicle was sandwiched by two motorcycles each boarded by two men.

The backriders then fired shots at the vehicle.

According to witnesses, the backrider of the motorcycle, which positioned at the right side of the vehicle, got off, opened the right front door and finished off the victim with more bullets.

The assailants drove off after the attack.

Police are still investigating the motive of the attack.

The victim was the grandson of incumbent Talisay City Councilor Arturo Bas. He was the son of former Lagtang barangay captain Mark Ferdinand Bas, who was arrested last April 15 after assorted firearms were seized from his house during a police raid. (Calvin Cordova)
