Television stations wishing to broadcast live feeds of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will have to shell out $5,000 (about P250,000) as participation fee.
This was disclosed yesterday by Robert Mananquil, head of the media and broadcast group of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
“That’s a bargain,” said Mananquil who has just returned from a meeting in KL along with POC secretary-general Steve Hontiveros. “The head of the organizing committee said they are not in the business of making money.”
Mananquil said the fee includes a booth in the MiTEC which will house the broadcasting networks.
MiTEC, which will host some events, was built at a cost of $60 million, according to Mananquil.
The POC official said he will seek a meeting with the country’s major networks.
Two years ago, TV5 was the lone network to show live feeds from Singapore.
Mananquil, however, said the three leading networks – GMA 7, ABS-CBN and TV5 – have filled out accreditation forms for their reporters.
Meanwhile, Malaysia launched the National Velodrome, its first-ever indoor velodrome, last Thursday with some of its greatest cyclists in attendance.
The first-class velodrome in Nilai will host the three-day track events in cycling in the Games beginning on Aug. 27.
The velodrome was built at a cost of 80 million Malaysian ringgit (about $18.7 million).
