Amid the series of protests being staged by health workers and concerned citizens, the modernization plan for the Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital in Manila will push through, health officials confirmed yesterday.
In a press conference held at the Department of Health in Manila yesterday, it was disclosed that the management of Fabella Hospital has finally decided to go on with the modernization plan as they are primarily concerned with the structural weaknesses of the hospital that could cause untoward incidents, especially at times of calamities.
“We want a new and modern hospital to provide quality services. Hiningi talaga ito ng aming pamunuan at ibinigay ng gobyerno,” said Fabella Hospital Director Esmeraldo Ilem.
The 65-year-old hospital will be transferred from its current location at the Old Bilibid Prison Compound in Sta. Cruz, Manila to a new building located near the San Lazaro Hospital in Tayuman, Manila once the construction is finished.
“We are just waiting for the release of the License to Operate from the Quezon City government for us to be able to transfer to the Fabella Building constructed in the Lung Center of the Philippines. We will then transfer to the new building in Manila once the building there is ready for occupancy,” Ilem disclosed. (Charina Charisse E. Echaluce)
