For Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas, there is no other explanation from the more than P211 million cash gift admitted by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte or the P2.4 billion in transactions as alleged by Senator Antonio Trillanes, but corruption.

Roxas said the more Duterte keep the Filipino people in the dark as to the source of the money and the entire transactions in his bank accounts, the more that suspicions that the millions or billions of deposits in his accounts are indeed dirty money.

“The question of the Filipino people is very clear and simple: Where did his money come from? Yet, he could not give the people a clear and simple answer,” said Roxas.

Duterte earlier denied the existence of the bank account at the BPI but when some people were able to prove that it exists and still active, the Davao City mayor retracted his statement and said that he and his daughter Sara have indeed account. But he said the bank account has only thousands in deposit.

Later, Duterte admitted to having a little less than the R211 million which Trillanes alleged.

The Davao City mayor, now the frontrunner in the presidential race, was reported to have admitted that the millions of pesos in cash deposits are gifts on his birthday.

Roxas said Duterte’s admission that he received money from his rich friends qualifies for the violation of the anti-graft law.

“Based on our Anti-Graft and Corruption Act, acceptance of gift whoever is the source is still a violation,” said Roxas.
